What is the CCY?
The CCY or Camping Club Youth, is a section of the Camping and Caravanning Club aimed at young people aged 12 to 17 (21 if they pass their youth test). Its purpose is to promote enjoyment of all forms of camping and to develop skills that will enhance their camping experiences. As a part of this, youth can participate in training sessions with their Youth Leader, leading up to them sitting their Youth Test. Passing the test enables youth to camp unsupervised on club sites and continue in the youth section until they are 21.
Training for the youth test includes learning the skills of camping: how to pack and carry the kit correctly, the essentials of finding a suitable pitch and erecting the tent correctly, cooking a meal on a single burner, basic first aid and map reading.
CCY can also take part in camping events organised especially for them, both locally and at a national level. Once they have passed their Youth Test (and reached 14 years of age!), youth can also attend the FICC Youth Rally, held in a different European country each year.
